Welcome to the website of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, Illinois. Our diocese is spread across 26 counties ministering to over 250,000 people.
As you visit our website you will see evidence of all the talented and faithful people who carry out God's work through their service to his people. You might be seeking information about diocesan events, vocations, a Catholic school or religious education program. Hopefully our website will provide you with the information you are seeking and/or direct you appropriately.
Earlier generations of Catholics preparing for Confirmation memorized what were called the Seven Corporal and the Seven Spiritual Works of Mercy. This list of fourteen 'good deeds' was very obviously based upon the teaching of the Scriptures and constituted what was considered to be minimally necessary for living an adult life of faith. The Corporal Works were to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the imprisoned, shelter strangers, visit the sick, and bury the dead. The Spiritual Works were to correct sinners, instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, comfort the sorrowful, bear injuries patiently, and pray for the living and the dead. This list offers an examination of conscience regarding our willingness to be of service for the love of Christ.
I hope you will be inspired to participate in some of our social, pastoral or educational ministries, and/ or to learn more about the teachings of the Catholic Church.
On behalf of the priests, religious and laity we send an open invitation to you - Please join us in spreading the Gospel!
