The Father-Son and Mother-Daughter programs aim to teach boys and girls age 10-14 to understand the physical and emotional changes that go along with growing up. The perspective is Christ-centered, building on the importance of prayer and understanding of Catholic moral teaching. Each afternoon-long program includes information on sexual development and its effects, as well as guidance from peers, young adults, parents and priests, and is geared towards the development of interior virtue, respect for others, and parent-child communication. The programs were established to provide one way for schools and parishes to assist parents in teaching their children about sexuality and chastity, as is their right and duty. The Office Marriage & Family works with parish and school leaders in orchestrating the afternoon programs by providing structure, content, and training for volunteers, who are recruited from the local school or parish community. The programs conform to the vision of the Office of Schools' 1996 guideline, "An Outline for Education in Chastity."
Parishes and schools interested in hosting a chastity program, or parents and
individuals wishing to learn more, are welcome to contact the Office of Marriage & Family. |
