National Evangelization Team (NET) Ministries

NET Ministries (National Evangelization Teams) is an international youth ministry that aims to challenge young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. NET Ministries fulfills its mission by:

  • Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ through a personal witness of faith
  • Inviting young people to live for Christ
  • Forming young people in Christian character through the study and practice of our faith
  • Equipping youth workers and young adults with the ministry skills needed for evangelization

These retreats, typically for youth in grades 7-12, are high-energy experiences using large group presentations, small group discussions, music, drama, personal faith sharing, and one-on-one prayer. Depending on the needs of the parish or school, the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist can also be integrated into the retreat.

NET retreats range in length from 4 hours to 3 days. Though the format and theme of the retreats may vary, the basic message is always the same: "In Jesus Christ, the Son of God made man, who died and rose from the dead, salvation is offered to all, as a gift of God's grace and mercy" (Evangelization in the Modern World, Pope Paul VI).

2005-06 Retreat Themes

Who are You?
(recommended for grades 7-9)
This retreat theme helps young people come to a greater awareness of their goodness and uniqueness as God's sons and daughters. It addresses issues of self-worth, personal confidence, and acceptance.

Cling to Christ
(recommended for grades 7-12)
This theme looks at the ultimate proof of God's love for us: the sacrifice of His only begotten son, Jesus. The young people are encouraged to cling to Christ and let Him lead them to the Father.

Why Faith?
(recommended for grades 7-12)
What's the big deal with this "God stuff" anyway? This retreat addresses four common reasons young people don't seem interested in their Catholic faith and challenges young people to reconsider their perspective. They are exhorted to live their Catholic faith to the fullest!

Firm Foundation
(recommended for grades 9-12)
The goal of this retreat theme is to answer the question, "Now that I've opened my heart to Jesus, what do I do next?" When a contractor builds a house, the first and most important thing he or she must do is lay a strong foundation. Likewise, if we're going to have a solid faith, it must be built on Christ, our strong foundation. This presentation uses the analogy of a card table (as our life) and the legs of the table as elements of our faith that will help us to stand strong. Unless all four legs of the table are strong, the table (our life) will fall.

Comfirmation
(recommended for grades 7-12)
Confirmation is vital in the faith life of Catholics. The purpose of the NET Confirmation retreat is not to catechize/instruct the candidates on what Confirmation is - that happens in their religious education/faith formation classes. Instead the "Confirmation" theme is designed to encourage the candidates to make the most of the opportunity the Church presents them with. The team will exhort the young people to see Confirmation not as "graduation" from Church but as the beginning fo their full life in the Church!

Overnight/Weekend
(Grades 9-12 only; maximum of 80 youth)
The overnight and weekend retreats provide a more intense retreat experience by taking the youth out of their regular environment and helping them to think seriously about their relationship with God. The overall theme of the overnight and weekend retreats is "Cling to Christ."
