Recently the Catholic Church restored the order of diaconate.

A deacon is a man at least 35 years of age, married or single, who serves the people of God in the ordained diaconal ministry.

The role of deacons is to assist the priest in preaching, the conferral of baptism, performance of marriage, the administration of parishes and similar duties. His ministry is charity and justice, liturgical, pastoral and social.
